Pilates

What is Pilates?

“A proven system of exercise, Pilates transforms the way your body looks, feels, and performs. It teaches you how to connect your body, breathing, and alignment, and trains your mind and body to focus on every movement”. – Balanced Body

I got into Pilates over a decade ago when I was struggling to recover from a serious back injury that was threatening to disable me. In many ways Pilates saved my life. It has strengthened not just my physical body, but my self-awareness, sense of self, and confidence. I want this for everyone. And I’d love for people to find it before they really hurt themselves. Not all forms of “strength” are created equal, and the strength that Pilates creates provides a key base for long-lasting wellness.

Pilates is an unique system of exercises designed to transform the way your mind-body functions in everyday life. The goal is ease, efficiency and longevity in all your life’s activities. Founded on the teachings and principles of Joseph Pilates, Pilates (originally called Contrology) starts at the core and works out, building strength, stability, balance, flexibility, proprioception (awareness of body in space), and mental focus. A key component that sets Pilates apart from other types of workouts is attentive focus on the quality of each engaged movement paired with synchronized breathing. People often find it unexpectedly exhilarating, energizing yet calming, remarkably challenging and oddly addictive.

Give yourself the gift of increased strength, agility, ease, and confidence!  Whether it’s through one-on-one guidance or group classes, if you practice consistently you’ll find that stress, pain, stiffness and even trauma will begin to dissipate. You’ll walk taller with a bounce in your step. You’ll feel more present, embodied, inspired. You’ll feel more capable to take on whatever dreams and aspirations you have. There is a reason I, as a somatic psychotherapist, trained as a Pilates Instructor. There is a reason I named my Pilates project Uprising Pilates

I offer one-on-one and two-person sessions, as well as community classes. We can also incorporate components into personalized somatic therapy sessions. Contact me for more details. Follow my Pilates page on Instagram for class schedule, etc: @UprisingPilates
